This course, developed and delivered in collaboration with mental health experts from Two Two One Mental Health Charity, explores the complexities of hoarding and squalor with a focus on building understanding, compassion and support for the individual.
Participants will learn how to recognise indicators of hoarding, squalor and collecting, understand the psychology and risk factors behind these behaviours, and navigate the mental health and safety implications. The workshop combines essential knowledge with practical skills for having supportive conversations and navigating treatment referrals
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Recognise symptoms of hoarding and squalor
- Understand the differences between hoarding, squalor and collecting, including the risk factors and the distress
- Respond respectfully whilst maintaining safety
- Start conversations and connect tenants with appropriate supports
